•The performances of a gas injection system with refrigerant mixtures are studied.•R448A and R32/R744/R1234yf mixtures with various compositions are compared.•Optimal composition ratio of the mixture is proposed based on system performances.•The life cycle climate performance (LCCP) of tested refrigerants is investigated.
