Effects of p-Sulfonatocalixarene and p-Sulfonatocalixarene/Sulfobetaine Surfactant Complex on the Activities of Bromelain and Polyphenol Oxidase

•The bindings of sulfonatocalix[n]arene (SC[n]) with bromelain (BM) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) were studied.•SC[n] decreased the activities of BM and PPO, and BM activity was inhibited to a greater extent.•The enzymes did not destroy the binding between SC[n] and sulfobetaine surfactant.•The enzyme activities could be controlled by the molar ratio of SC[n] to sulfobetaine surfactant.
