•The emission of α- and β-Ag2WO4:Eu3+ are investigated and compared.•The overall fluorescence intensity of β-Ag2WO4: Eu is greater than that of α-Ag2WO4: Eu.•The reasons for the enhancement emission in β-Ag2WO4: Eu are discussed.
