The joint effects of terrorism and land access on livestock production decisions: Evidence from northern Nigeria

•Terrorism is found to reduce total herd size, but mostly from cattle.•Land access positively impacts cattle herd size but only in locations with fewer fatalities.•Livestock diversification in conflict is predicated on land access.•Land abandonment is likely in regions with high fatalities from terrorism.
