•Extensive eruption of volcanic rocks in the Jiaodong Peninsula occurred at ca. 120 Ma.•Paleomagnetic results suggest a latitudinal motion along the Tan-Lu fault after 120 Ma.•The Paleo-Pacific subduction caused the sinistral displacement of the Tan-Lu Fault.
