Variation of magnetism in two-dimensional MnS2 thin films

•Novel pyrite-based two-dimensional MnS2 thin films are proposed.•Variations of magnetic and electronic structures in our non-van der Waals system are realized.•Different magnetic orders are realized in the thin film with its perpendicular magnetic anisotropy kept.•We point the direction of the further development of Mn-based sulfide in spintronics.
