摘要

•Bio-psychological factors may contribute to metabolic syndrome (MetS).•High Irrational Beliefs Inventory (IBI) was associated with 1.5-times higher odds for MetS.•People with high IBI and Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were 96% more likely to develop MetS.•IBI was a predictor of MetS independent of medical and lifestyle factors.
