Speech intelligibility prediction based on modulation frequency-selective processing

•A successful approach to modelling speech intelligibility is the analysis of the amplitude modulations present in speech.•This review covers speech intelligibility models related to the speech-based envelope power spectrum model.•The strengths and weaknesses of the modulation-based analysis are outlined for two different metrics: the envelope signal-to-noise ratio and the correlation in the envelope domain.•Perspectives regarding the prediction of consequences of individual hearing loss on speech intelligibility are discussed.
