No-reference Qquality index of tone-mapped images based on authenticity, preservation, and scene expressiveness

•The perception quality of tone-mapped image is comprehensively measured from the aspects of authenticity, preservation of energy and information, and scene expressiveness.•The illumination distribution reflecting TMI authenticity is described.•Color diffusion distortion that impairing the performance of the scene expressiveness is defined.
