Physiological changes and clinical effects of aging

Aging is characterized by progressive changes that are associated with a decline in functional capacity and increased susceptibility to many diseases. Although all organisms do age, this is not a homogenous process and the rates of functional decline vary greatly. Psychosocial factors, genetic factors, and environmental exposures contribute to aging as well as longevity.
