Magnetic and Spintronic Materials and Their Applications

In this chapter, we focus on discussing the magnetic and spintronic materials for optical, infrared, and terahertz (THz) wave applications, owing to their fruitful physical properties in the range of these spectra. Section 10.1 briefly introduces the background and historical development of magnetic and spintronic materials. Section 10.2 discusses the fundamental physics of magnetic and spintronic materials, as well as the related magnetic and spintronic phenomena. Sections 10.3 gives an overview of various applications of magnetic and spintronic materials, including generation, manipulation, and detection of optical, infrared, and THz waves. In the last, a brief summary and outlook are presented in Section 10.4.
