Survival outcomes in a prospective randomized multicenter Phase III trial comparing patients undergoing anatomical segmentectomy versus standard lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer up to 2 cm

•In early-stage non-small cell lung cancer different treatment options are available.•Overall survival and disease free survival are analyzed after lobectomy or segmentectomy.•There was not a statistically significant difference in overall survival at 5 years between lobectomy and segmentectomy patients (86.52% vs 78.21%)•The targeted non-inferiority of segmentectomy to lobectomy was significant only for disease free survival (77.96% versus 77.29%)
