Recent progress in solid polymer electrolytes with various dimensional fillers: A review

Lithium ion batteries (LIB) have always been the major source of power for various commercial electronic devices. However, the drawbacks such as high flammability, chemical instability and volatile liquid electrolytes can cause battery combustion and even explosion. To eliminate these safety hazards, there have been plenty of efforts made in recent decades to obtain the high performance solid polymer electrolytes (SPE). SPE have many merits which attract much attention, such as non-flammability, high flexibility and wide electrochemical stability window. Nevertheless, their disadvantages, such as high operating temperatures and low ionic conductivity, hinder their development. Therefore, a variety of modified fillers were introduced into SPE for the improvement of their performances. Herein, a summary is made as to the recent progress made in solid polymer electrolytes containing various dimensional fillers.
