Spray strategy and mixer optimization in Urea-SCR system based on frozen flow modeling

•The CFD model had highly effectiveness and was validated by experiments.•Frozen flow method could decrease the cycle numbers to save computing cost.•Frozen flow affected the film mass resulting in error under low load condition.•Appropriately reduced the injection frequency could reduce the film mass.•The optimized mixer effectively improved the mixer performance.
