Evaluation of small combinatorial libraries of nitrogenous low-molecular-weight compounds for new fragrance development

Volatile oxime ethers are chemically and biologically interesting compounds since they are hydrolytically stable and can exhibit agreeable sensory traits. We aimed to develop a straightforward combinatorial strategy for the discovery of novel odorants for functional perfumery. We have created and screened small combinatorial libraries of 380 compounds belonging to the oxime ether class and demonstrated its potential compared with conventional synthetic methods. The approach described in this article allowed us to swiftly identify twenty-nine most promising odorants out of three hundred and eighty compounds. Most promising novel odorants have been included in the patent application, and are going to be implemented.
