Parasitic Nematodes: Model Systems for Studying Parasitism and Pathogenesis

This chapter focuses on the origin of parasitism in Nematoda based on fossil records and phylogenetic hypotheses, evolutionary trajectories of nematode parasites and bacteria symbioses, life cycles and transmission modes of parasitic nematode models and the role of nematode symbionts in disease control. Some information on emerging tools and technologies for the study of parasitism and pathogenesis of nematode-bacteria partnerships are also presented.
