Use of c-peptide as a measure of cephalic phase insulin release in humans

•Insulin and c-peptide release followed a similar time course during cephalic phase period.•C-peptide shows a greater effect size after oral sensory stimulation.•Measure of c-peptide is more replicable than insulin across repeated sessions.•Individual differences in CPIR should be considered when drawing conclusions.
