•GA3 applications increase the global performance of an artichoke hybrid propagated from both seeds and suckers.•The year affects more the productivity, commercial quality and caffeoylquinic acids content followed by the type of propagation.•GA3 treatments have strong impact on productive and chemical variables.•An adequate combination of propagation type and GA3 treatments for the artichoke cultivation enhance its production.
