摘要
•Little is known about fire, plant-available N, and soil microbes in US Great Plains•We analyzed fire temperatures, ammonium and nitrate, and PLFA in 5 prairie burns•Thermocouple temperatures averaged 350 °C in plant canopy and 275 °C at soil surface•Burning increased ammonium 1 d after fire and nitrate 7 mo after fire•Soil microbes did not respond to burning; grasslands are resilient to prescribed fire
