Narrow-band infrared radiation characteristics of rocket exhaust plume by using correction function related to thermodynamic state

•An accurate infrared radiation model of the rocket exhaust plumes is established based on a correction function related to the thermodynamic state.•Validation and evaluation of the present model were carried out by the equivalent width of a fictitious column and the experimental spectrometer data.•The effects of propellant formulation, flight altitude and Mach number on the plume infrared signature were investigated.
