摘要

•Esophageal cancer (EC) is the sixth most common cause of cancer related deaths in both genders worldwide.•Literature has reported ~22 % prevalence of high risk (HR)-HPV subtypes in EC.•Ø According to PRISMA, separate meta-analysis was performed on different types of epidemiological studies with HPV subtypes.•The results observed that HR-HPV 16 and 18 infections could be a strong factor for the etiopathogenesis of EC.
