Information technology-driven operational decisions in a supply chain with random demand disruption and reference effect

•Three stylized models are proposed to analyze operational decisions in supply chains.•Optimal conditions for investing in information technology are derived.•Platform prefers a revenue sharing scheme while supplier prefers a fixed fee scheme.•Reference effect hurts the platform while benefiting the supplier.•Inaccurate disruption information brings substantial losses to the supply chain.
