Hardware-in-the-loop implementation of a Battery System Charging/Discharging in Islanded DC Micro-grid

Energy storage system is a crucial element in most of nowadays microgrids to stabilize the overall system and meet load demands in case of lack of renewable energy resources. The increasing development in battery technologies, especially lithium-ion batteries, makes them affordable in most Microgrid systems. This paper presents a control scheme for charge/discharge control of lithium-Ion batteries in an islanded DC MG with the integration of Photovoltaic system. Three different cases were investigated to evaluate the control performance. In Case 1, the discharging currents of the battery are controls to supply power to a load Case 2 and case 3 study the chargingand discharging control of the battery connected to a PV system and a load. The performance of the overall system simulated with Matlab and evaluated with hardware implementation.
