pH-sensitive release of antioxidant Se-glycoconjugates through a flexible polymeric patch

•Selenium glycoconjugates with antioxidant activity are synthesised and loaded into hydrogel-based patches.•Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate and poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) are selected as polymeric films since they are biocompatible materials.•A pH-sensitive release of the synthesised compounds is demonstrated.•For both selenium glycoconjugates the diffusion mechanism appeared to be anomalous.•The loaded system is potentially suitable for skin repair applications.
