•Median five-year overall survival in carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma is 61.9%.•Higher T staging, pathological grading, and overall staging have worse survival outcomes.•There were no randomised controlled trials or prospective studies for this disease.•Further research is required for treatment modalities such as radiotherapy and nerve sacrifice.
