•The crystallization behavior of Fe85.7Si7.9B3.6Cr2C0.8 amorphous powders produced by the novel atomization technique was studied under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions.•The causes of the anomalous third crystallization peak on the DSC curve of Fe85.7Si7.9B3.6Cr2C0.8 amorphous powder were analyzed.•The first and second-order phase transition of Fe-Si phase in the Fe-Si-B amorphous system during the crystallization process with continuous temperature rise was investigated.
