摘要

•Different types of personal protective equipment lead to different degrees of sound attenuation.•Wearing a surgical mask or an N95 mask with face shield markedly reduces the performance of speech understanding in noise.•Wearing a transparent mask improves the speech perception to a normal level as wearing no mask.
