摘要
Purpose of review The present review states current findings on the topic of enteral feeding and endoscopy. It is divided into two parts. First, important parts of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism guidelines will be summarized and discussed. Second, important publications in the field of enteral nutrition published in the year 2021 will be discussed. Recent findings (1) Guidelines state that enteral nutrition of patients after esophagectomy is an integral part of a successful therapy. However, recent meta-analyses suggest that there is a subgroup of patients without the need of additional enteral nutrition. (2) Two meta-analyses focus on high-protein supplementation and long-term nutritional interventions as important predictors of mortality. Promising results were achieved in noncritically ill patients but not in critically ill ones. (3) One randomized controlled trial in critically ill patients found that the combination of vibration muscle training with enteral feeding reduces the risk of sarcopenia. Summary Currently published European guidelines on enteral nutrition provide well-structured guidance on preprocedural, periprocedural and postprocedural management. Relevant findings on endoscopy in enteral nutrition were currently rare. However, there were interesting meta-analysis and randomized controlled trials published on the topic of enteral feeding in surgery and intensive care medicine.
