Assessing environmental services and disservices of urban street trees. an application of the emergy accounting

•Emergy-based assessment framework capable to assign an environmental value to services provided by urban forests and other green infrastructures.•The study classifies urban street tree integrated valuation framework into costs, benefits and associated dis-services.•Results show that human engineered ecosystem provides maximum of ES, while such dependency is a source of several EDs as well.•The installation, growth and survival of trees maybe challenging in city environments which have ever increasing areas of an impervious surface.
