Phylogenetic assessment of the Metamasius hemipterus species complex (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Dryophthorinae)

•M. hemipterus is currently separated in three subspecies, based on color patterns. We addressed M. hemipterus species boundaries applying a ddRADseq approach.•Phylogenetic analysis revealed a clear separation of M. hemipterus subspecies.•M. h. carbonarius and M. h. sericeus should be treated as one species, M. sericeus.•M. h. hemipterus should be treated as a separate species M. hemipterus.
