Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Glasgow Sleep Effort Scale

•The GSES was designed to asess an individuals' persistent preoccupation with sleep.•In confirmatory factor analysis, the Turkish GSES demonstrated good fit indices.•The reliability of internal consistency was good. Convergent validity with the previously validated rating scales was also good.•The cut-off score of the Turkish GSES was examined as 6 points for clinical insomnia and 3 points for poor sleepers.•The Turkish GSES is a valid and reliable instrument in the university population.
