Screening for bipolar disorder in a tertiary mental health centre using EarlyDetect: A machine learning-based pilot study

•Bipolar disorder (BD) detection accuracy can be enhanced using self-report composite measures.•Core symptoms of BD and family history of BD predicts BD.•BD classification remains accurate using as few as 5-10 questions.•Machine-learning approach is effective to enhance BD detection and superior to MDQ.
