摘要
•One-third of patients with heart failure experience subjective financial hardship due to medical bills, and 13.2% are not able to pay medical bills at all.•Nonelderly patients with less than college educational attainment are more likely to report subjective financial hardship.•There are needs for policies to reduce out-of-pocket costs in the care of heart failure and for a more systematic detection, enhanced discussion and management of this phenomenon in the clinical setting.
