•A longitudinally excited CO2 laser operated at a repetition rate of 1 kHz.•The discharge tube did not have any pre-ionization system.•The discharge tube was an inner diameter of 8 mm and a length of 80 cm.•The CO2 laser produced an energy of 35.2 mJ at a repetition rate of 1 kHz.
