•Phase transformations of fullerenes C60 and C70 with Ag, Ni, V or Ni80Cr20.•High temperatures 500–1100 °C and high pressure 8 GPa.•V or Ni80Cr20 stabilize fullerenes, while Ag and Ni do not.•Carbides are mainly formed by V or Ni80Cr20 interaction with amorphous graphite.
