Forage chain in extensive pig farming: Performance and meat quality traits of Cinta Senese vs Large White x Cinta Senese pigs

•The agroecosystem approach allows to raise pigs outdoors as part of a cropping system.•The use of a forage chain in pig breeding minimize the use of commercial concentrate.•Pasture breeding can achieve the same performance and quality than confined breeding.•Crossbreed could be an opportunity to enhance the performances of autochthonous pig.
