Redox non-innocent organic substrates, viz. 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol (3,5-DBC) and 2-aminophenol (2-AP), undergo facile aerial oxidation on silica surface to exclusively afford 3,5-di-tertbutyl-1,2-benzoquinone (3,5-DBQ) and 2-amino-3H-phenoxazin-3-one (APX) respectively.
