Distracted driving in relation to risky road behaviors and traffic crashes in Bogota, Colombia

•We present an analysis of the effects of distraction on drivers.•A survey was administered to 659 drivers in the city of Bogotá, Colombia.•Structural equation modeling was applied for the analysis.•Young drivers are more likely to be distracted and to engage in risky behaviors.•No significant differences were found between the distractors in relation to gender, except for the distraction “people I find attractive”.
