•This study investigates the impact of pore-scale surface wettability heterogeneity on immiscible two-fluid displacement in porous media.•Rock surface wettability fields are generated based on in-situ X-ray micro-computed tomography measurements of contact angles.•Heterogeneous surface wettability leads to a negative entry pressure of the primary drainage stage under the intermediate-wet condition.
