•The functional relationship among FDM process parameters concerning PET-G material are examined for their effect on flexural strength.•A regression model for flexural strength is generated with high correlation and predictability.•FDM parameters are optimized to maximize flexural strength by employing the grey wolf optimization algorithm (GWO).
