Harnessing and cloaking optical boundary in lens-array based display

•An approach to cloaking optical boundaries for lens array is proposed.•The cloaking of the optical boundary is realized for large viewing angle and for full visible spectrum.•Tailored illumination with local dimming is established to further improve the visual homogeneity, achieving completely invisible optical lens boundary.•The cloaking technique is applied to an autostereoscopic display system and is shown to be practical and valid for imaging and display optics.
