摘要

•Niobium-based coating was exploited for the corrosion protection of 2198-T851 al alloy.•The coatings were able to increase the resistance localised corrosion of the alloy.•Improvement in corrosion resistance of 2198-T851 al alloy by niobium oxide coatings.•Higher long-term resistance to pitting corrosion was archieved due to the coatings.
