•The influence of rGO on PLA pyrolysis mechanism was accessed using GC-MS method.•Stable dimethyl dioxolanones were found among the primary PLA pyrolysis products.•DSC showed the effect of rGO on the heats of cold crystallization and melt of PLA.•Adsorption of PLA on the rGO surface leads to decrease in segmental mobility.
