Dihydromyricetin from Ampelopsis grossedentata and its derivatives: Structural characterization and anti-hepatocellular carcinoma activity

•Dihydromyricetin was efficiently extracted from Ampelopsis grossedentata.•Dihydromyricetin was modified by esterification to obtain two novel derivatives.•Two novel derivatives showed significant anti-hepatocellular carcinoma activity.•Two novel derivatives could be developed as a potential drug for cancer treatment.
