DNA/Protein binding and anticancer activity of Zn(II) complexes based on azo-Schiff base ligands

Synthesis of the azo–Schiff base ligands (L1) and (L2) and their Zn(II) complexes (C1–C2) have been described. Characterization of the ligands and complexes have been achieved by spectral studies (IR, 1H, 13C, ESI–MS, electronic absorption, emission) and crystal structures of C1 and C2 determined crystallographically. Interaction of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) has been supported by absorption titration studies.
