•4APHM was grown into single crystal by slow evaporation technique.•Characterized by SXRD, FTIR, UV–Visible and non linear optical analysis.•Theoretical NLO calculations were evaluated using DFT calculations.•Grown material possesses second order optical nonlinearity.
