•Microwave-assisted CO2 stripping/carbon-rich solvent regeneration was assessed.•In batch process, 20wt% piperazine exhibits maximum regeneration efficiency of 48%.•In a cyclic process, 30wt%MEA exhibits the lowest regeneration energy.•Faster CO2 stripping and low regeneration temperature under cyclic process.
