•Silver NPs synthesized by using Tannic Acid (TA).•TA is enough for reduction and stabilization.•For characterization PXRD, FESEM, TEM, EDS, FTIR, UV–vis spectroscopy and DLS used.•Good cytotoxicity noticed against human carcinoma cell line A549.•Silver NPs can be utilized as an antibacterial agent.
