Multi-ion intercalated Ti3C2Tx MXene and the mutual modulation within interlayer

•Electrostatic interaction was utilized to synthesize multi-ion intercalated Ti3C2Tx MXene.•The intercalation of foreign species induced a shrinkage of the interlayer space by stress.•The multi-ion occupies the interspace of MXene and affects the electrochemical performance.
