•Effects of intratracheal IL-10 dosing on steroid-insensitive asthma were assessed.•IL-10 dosing suppressed the development of airway hyperresponsiveness.•IL-10 dosing decreased infiltrations of eosinophils and neutrophils into the lung.•IL-10 dosing attenuated the proliferation of ICAM-1+ and VCAM-1+ endothelial cells.
